Mode of Action
SafePRO® Aquatain AMF Liquid Mosquito Film™ is a polydimethylsiloxane-based formulation. It adds a thin silicone film on water bodies and constitutes a physical barrier to the reproductive capabilities of mosquitoes.
The low surface tension of the silicone film prevents mosquito larvae from breathing as well as female mosquitoes from depositing their eggs on the water surface, drowning many of them in the attempt. It is a simple Physical Action which does not rely on any toxic chemicals to be effective.
Silicone film is resilient to strong wind and wave action on open water, will spread quickly and completely around aquatic vegetation and will not build up on the downwind side of a water body. It is resistant to ultraviolet degradation and remains effective for around 30 days..
Application
SafePRO® Aquatain AMF is used at the dosage of 1 mL per square meter of water surface. Repeat every month.
Efficacy
Independent trials have been conducted on the three major mosquito species –anopheles (malaria vector), aedes (dengue fever vector) and culex (West Nile virus and yellow fever vector). The main conclusions from the trials are:
- Pupae of all species die within about two hours
- Larvae of all species also die, but the process may take a few days
- Discourages females from laying eggs on the surface
- Effective for at least 30 days
