Gastrointestinal endoscopy utilizes a flexible and bendable endoscope. Gastroscopy diagnoses the upper gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, for lesions and diseases such as cellular abnormalities, inflammation, ulcers, or polyps. Doctors can observe the upper digestive tract on a screen and perform treatments like hemostasis and polyp removal using various instruments. They can also take suspicious tissue samples for further laboratory analysis.
Individuals experiencing symptoms such as indigestion, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, or those with symptoms or diseases related to esophageal or gastric cancer should follow their doctor's advice and undergo gastroscopy. This procedure can help determine whether stomach tissue is benign or malignant and allows for the immediate removal of polyps if any issues are detected.
Colonoscopy diagnoses the lower gastrointestinal tract, including the terminal ileum, cecum, colon, rectum, and anus, for lesions and diseases. Colonoscopy can detect abnormalities and cellular changes and offers therapeutic functions such as polyp removal and hemostasis. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as blood in the stool, occult blood or black stool, mucus in the stool, changes in bowel habits (persistent constipation/diarrhea), abdominal cramps, difficulty defecating, a feeling of incomplete bowel evacuation, or those with symptoms related to colorectal cancer should follow their doctor's advice and undergo colonoscopy.
This program is developed by our professional Hong Kong-style medical team, providing a dedicated area for health check-ups. This service is particularly beneficial for individuals who prioritize privacy.

Special Notes

  • If the doctor assesses that the client is not suitable for endoscopy, a doctor consultation fee of HKD500 will be charged, and the remaining balance will be refunded.
  • The final price for the endoscopy service will be determined based on the results of the examination (i.e., the number of polyps and biopsies taken during the procedure). For your health, the doctor will usually remove the polyps directly during the examination. The patient will pay the difference at the hospital after the examination (WeChat HK and Alipay HK payments are accepted). If polyps are found during the examination, the typical laboratory fees are:
    • Stomach: 200-700 RMB
    • Intestine: 200-1100 RMB
    • Stomach and Intestine: 200-1800 RMB

Eligible Population

  1. Age requirement: 14 years old or above, both male and female.
  2. Individuals with symptoms:
    • Difficulty swallowing, recurrent upper abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer, upper gastrointestinal bleeding (passing black tarry stools, suspected of having gastrointestinal cancer).
    • Blood in the stool, occult blood or black stool, mucus in the stool, changes in bowel habits (persistent constipation/diarrhea), abdominal cramps, difficulty defecating, a feeling of incomplete bowel evacuation, or symptoms related to colorectal cancer.
  3. High-risk individuals for diseases such as esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and colorectal cancer.
  4. Routine examination needs: Individuals who need regular gastrointestinal endoscopy, especially those for early screening.
  5. Lesion monitoring and follow-up: People who need regular monitoring and follow-up of previous lesions (chronic gastritis).
  6. Health check-up needs: Individuals who wish to have a detailed health assessment through gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Contraindications

  1. The patient is unable to tolerate an endoscopy subsequent to an evaluation by a physician, such as acute cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disorders.
  2. Anesthesia risk: Conditions that pose an anesthesia risk are identified following an anesthesiologist's evaluation.

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Procedure
  1. Pre-procedure consultation with a doctor.
  2. Intravenous general anesthesia is administered, and the examination is conducted once the patient is asleep.
  3. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth, passing through the esophagus and stomach, and into the duodenum for inspection.
  4. The endoscope is inserted through the anus. During the procedure, you may feel abdominal bloating and a sensation of needing to defecate; these are normal reactions.
  5. If polyps or suspicious tissues are found during the examination, the doctor will use forceps to remove the polyps and take tissue samples for biopsy. This procedure does not cause any pain.
  6. The gastrointestinal endoscopy itself takes about 30-60 minutes, and the entire process can be completed in approximately 2 hours.

Preparation for the Examination
  1. Six weeks before the examination: Stop taking antibiotics.
  2. Two weeks before the examination: Stop taking stomach medications.
  3. Three days before the examination: Stop eating high-fiber foods, including vegetables and fruits.
  4. One day before the examination: Consume only liquid foods and drink 4 liters of bowel cleanser. After taking the bowel cleanser:
    • Eat liquid foods such as plain porridge, soups, and pulp-free juices.
    • Avoid dairy products, high-fiber foods, greasy or fried foods, nuts, seeds, rough vegetables, and fruit peels.
    • Avoid drinking beverages containing red or purple dyes.
  5. Eight hours before the examination: Do not eat or drink, but you may drink a small amount of water.
  6. On the day of the examination: Wear loose clothing.
  7. Two hours before the examination: Remove dentures, contact lenses, jewelry, and metal items.

Things to note

  • Gastrointestinal endoscopy is typically divided into two stages: the initial preoperative consultation and examination, followed by the actual endoscopy procedure.
  • If you have diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, inform the doctor in advance.
  • If you are taking any medications, inform the doctor of the list of medications.
  • If you suspect or are pregnant, notify the doctor before the examination.
  • Due to general anesthesia, it is recommended to have a friend or family member accompany you to ensure safety.
